Socket
A socket is the complementary counterpart to the plug and forms the receiving side of a detachable electrical plug connection. It is designed as a permanently installed or mounted connecting element into which the matching plug is inserted. Sockets have contact springs or contact sleeves that create a secure electrical and mechanical connection with the plug contacts during mating.
The design ensures defined contact forces, low contact resistance and reliable current transmission. Sockets are used in housings, control cabinets, devices or as built-in elements in machines and systems. Depending on the application, they are available in different versions, from low-voltage signal sockets to rugged industrial sockets with a high degree of protection. Decisive for selection are electrical ratings, mechanical load capacity, mating cycles and environmental influences. High-quality sockets are characterised by a long service life, corrosion-resistant contacts and reliable performance even under demanding operating conditions.
